Building stability overseas strategy
Shared jointly by the Department for International Development (DFID), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD), this strategy outlines a coherent approach to conflict prevention based on a progressive vision of ‘stability’.
The United Kingdom's National Security Council (NSC) is the central point for prompt, coherent and coordinated decision making on national security issues. Within the NSC the Foreign Secretary and International Development Secretary, working closely with the Defence Secretary, are the lead Ministers for building stability overseas. These three Secretaries of State will jointly champion implementation of the strategy in this report. The four key areas presented are:
1. Mainstreaming the BSOS approach throughout government.
2. Increasing understanding of and buy-in to the idea of upstream conflict prevention.
3. Mainstreaming a gender perspective.
4. Debate and scrutiny of BSOS implementation
