Launch Call Mixed Migration Flows

Secretariat of the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law

NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development has launched the fifth call for proposals within the Applied Research Fund of the research program Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings. This call focuses on mixed migration flows. The call has been developed in close collaboration with the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law.

The research projects that will be funded must contribute to new evidence-based knowledge and insights on policies and intervention theories and strategies. The goal is to develop evidence-based insights on how donor-supported Security & Rule of Law policies and program or security measures can more effectively and more sustainably address the causes, triggers and dynamics of mixed migration flows. The projects should also unlock the knowledge generated by this research for practitioner organizations. Therefore all applications will be evaluated on scientific quality and relevance for policies and/or programs, both of which will carry equal weight. Preferably, projects pay attention to the political and economic role of women in peace and reconstruction processes.

Applying for a grant

Applications for proposals can be submitted until 25 October 2016. For this call, a maximum budget of 1.0 million euros is available. Each granted project will be funded with a maximum budget of 100,000 euros for a duration of six months. All research consortia should consist of at least a research organization worldwide, and a practitioner organisation involved in the design and/or implementation of either (1) policies and/or programs in the field of Security and Rule of Law, or (2) on donor-supported security measures designed to control and regulate mixed migration flows which focus on one or more of the countries mentioned below.

Targeted fragile and conflict-affected states should be: Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, Jordan, Kenia, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, and Yemen. A regional research focus is encouraged.
