Webinar: Supporting Civic Engagement on Democratic Reform and Rule of Law in the EU’s Eastern Partnership Countries
Three of the EU’s Eastern Partnership Countries (EaPs) have embarked on the accession process: Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. This is accompanied with intensified EU support for reforms of democracy and rule of law. Supporting civic engagement during these reforms is crucial to ensure they are based on citizens’ needs, but also to keep societies engaged and supportive in times of profound changes.
On 11 July, 10:00 – 12:00 (CEST) Team Europe Democracy (TED) and the Knowledge Platform Security Rule of Law (KPSRL) organize a webinar to explore the potential for improved joint EU and MS support for civic engagement on democratic reform and rule of law policies in these EaPs.
The goals of this session are:
- Identifying how current (geo)political realities in the EU Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries impact the nature and consistency of EU support for reforms on democracy and the rule of law in this region, with a particular focus on civic engagement in these reforms;
- Mapping which approaches (policies, instruments and programmes) can be applied (by EU and MS) to improve civic engagement on reforms of democracy and the rule of law.
- Exploring possibilities of increased coordinated activities between MS and EU in the region on this topic.
- Exploring opportunities for TED to support such initiatives by EU and MS.
