Learning and working: countering radicalization
On 16 November, the Platform and the International Center for Counter-Terrorism will host a workshop on education and countering violent extremism as part of the IGNITE 2016 conference hosted by SPARK in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam.
The discussion will tackle the relationship between radicalization and education, addressing what education can do to meet this growing challenge.
Recent studies suggest that access to education reduces the risk of radicalization towards violent extremism. This interactive workshop investigates links between education and violent extremism. Key questions include: what role can education play in preventing violent extremism? Is the lack of qualified jobs an incentive for educated people to become a violent extremist? Are development or security approaches to prevention most effective? Can these approaches be complementary, or do they obstruct one another? Using what they have learned, participants will search for solutions together.
