For more than a decade, the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law (KPSRL) has been the central network of the security and rule of law community in the Netherlands, and a vital link to diverse stakeholders in the Global South and fragile and conflict-affected contexts specifically.
Recently, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that it will not renew its funding of the KPSRL beyond the end of its current programme cycle in December 2024. Instead, a six-month extension will be provided covering the first half of 2025, enabling the Knowledge Platform to sustain policy dialogue, implement ongoing learning activities, and develop a responsible transition strategy.
In the coming weeks, members of the KPSRL community will gather in Dakar, Senegal and The Hague for the Knowledge Platform Annual Conference 2024. This will provide an opportunity for the community to dialogue and reflect on the future of KPSRL. The Consortium Partners and the Secretariat will endeavour to share as much information as possible regarding the network’s engagement in the forthcoming transition, and facilitate discussions on how best to serve the security and rule of law community during that period.
The Consortium Partners and the Secretariat are committed to ensuring a smooth transition, one that is jointly owned by the KPSRL community and maximizes the transfer of knowledge and sustainability of impact, delivered in close coordination with our partners in the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
More on KPSRL
Since 2012, KPSRL has generated, shared, interrogated, and applied evidence in the field of security and rule of law. The network is coordinated by a Secretariat based in The Hague, and managed by three Consortium Partners: Clingendael Institute, the International Development Law Organization, and Saferworld on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. Its main aim is to improve the learning capacity and knowledge base of its members, specifically decision-makers for policy and programming in the sector. KPSRL also serves as a mechanism for permanent dialogue between the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its partners on security and rule of law issues, including international organizations, civil society, academia and think tanks. Since its inception it grew into network of almost 7000 people around the world. The KPSRL provides an informal meeting space and intellectual stimulus grounded in practice, for its network to learn, share knowledge and experiences, and discuss novel insights.
