Tilmann Röder

Tilmann specializes in legal approaches in peacebuilding. Since 2005, he has been working in many conflict countries, such as Afghanistan, Myanmar, Libya, Ukraine, and Colombia. Between 2018 and 2021 carried out research at Freie Universität Berlin and advised to the stabilisation unit of the German Foreign Office. Tilmann co-founded and managed several NGOs, including the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (Heidelberg) and the Hamida Barmaki Organisation (Kabul). Since 2022 he is a director if the Institute for Law and Society in Afghanistan (ILSAF), a transnational research platform established upon his initiative. Tilmann writes on constitutional and international law, legal pluralism, and legal history. His is an editor of the tri-lingual Journal of Afghan Legal Studies.
